School Leader

French American School of Denver (FASDenver) seeks a school leader to advance, advocate for and execute our mission and vision. The leader will inspire teachers, students and staff to achieve academic and operational excellence.

FASDenver is Denver’s first and only public French language immersion school. Opening as a K-3 school in August 2021, it will expand to a K-8 school in the 2026-2027 academic year and serve over 500 students. FASDenver will offer our students and community a unique and highly coveted opportunity for French/English language immersion education, while improving learning outcomes and producing a positive and enduring impact on education and equity in the Denver metropolitan area.

Required Qualifications

● Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership or other relevant area

● Highly proficient in English

● Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

● Ability to thrive in the excitement and uncertainty surrounding a start-up

● Minimum three years of professional experience as a school administrator or leader

● Minimum five years of experience as a teacher within a school setting

Preferred Qualifications

● Charter school leadership experience

● School start-up leadership experience

● Minimum three years of professional teaching experience in bilingual, immersion of foreign language elementary classrooms

● Bilingual and bi-literate in French and English

Essential Duties

● Motivate staff, students and community

● Provide leadership, direction, supervision and accountability in the areas of

instruction and curriculum, student educational development and achievement, safety and security, student discipline, human resources and financial management

● Cultivate and maintain relationships with students, staff, parents and the community

● Oversee effective delivery of classroom instruction using data to track progress

● Steward the values of the school and organizational culture

School Culture and Climate

● Demonstrated ability and commitment to lead by fostering a dynamic and academically rigorous education program

● Develop and maintain a climate that attracts and motivates highly qualified staff

● Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with students, parents/guardians and community

● Manage and oversee staff development and growth

● Solve problems and focus on needs by analyzing data; Research possible solutions and improvements; Analyze and improve outcomes

● Effectively pursue innovative approaches to attracting and retaining students

Curriculum and Instruction

● Knowledge of curriculum development and program design related to dual immersion and French language development in both native and non-native French speaking


● Lead the curriculum development team, with designing and revising curriculum maps, including benchmark and summative assessments for all grades and all subjects

● Monitor, interpret and evaluate academic performance data, process and procedures to surpass standards and increase positive academic outcomes

Faculty and Staff Development

● Lead instructional staff by supporting teachers to achieve proficiency and growth goals

● Supervise and develop all teaching staff and other administrative staff, all of whom will report directly to the Principal/School Leader

● Build a culture of sharing of effective practices among instructional staff by facilitating cross-class observations, co-planning sessions, recruitment and retention of staff, evaluate and assist staff

Family and Community Engagement

● Host ongoing community engagement events

● Create and maintain a clear channel of communication with families

● Foster existing community partnerships and identify possibilities to widen or deepen

partnerships within FASDenver’s mission and vision

● Engage with students daily, modeling respect, leadership and service

Operations and Finance

● Oversee and implement school safety and emergency procedures

● Supervise day to day operations of the school

● Review and ensure faculty certifications

● Ensure education and regulatory compliance at local, state and federal levels

● Implement FASDenver’s short- and long-term strategies for financial management

Board Relations

● Implement policy, oversee operations, and carry out the provisions of the charter and the directives of the Board of Directors

● Work with the Board to develop a budget providing direction for short- and long-term spending priorities

● Coordinate and present quarterly budget reviews to prevent deficit spending and analyze school cash flow

● Provide reports regarding academic performance, school safety, fundraising, compliance, etc. at monthly Board meetings
