Francophone Teachers

French American School of Denver (FASD) is seeking Francophone teachers for the following grades for the 2021-22 school year:

  • Kindergarten (Maternelle Grande Section) – 2 positions available
  • 1st Grade (Cours Préparatoire – CP) – 1 position available
  • 3rd Grade (Cours Elémentaire 2 – CE2) – 1 position available

Salary Range: $40,000 – $67,000

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Culture:

  • Create a nurturing, safe, engaging and rigorous learning environment
  • Foster trusting collaborative relationships with families 
  • Understand and implement culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Establish consistent expectations and classroom routines for students

Instruction:

  • Teach content and skills in French without converting to English
  • Establish clear learning goals and objectives related to the FASDenver curriculum
  • Plan, prepare and present lessons, assignments, and instructional materials aligned to French National curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varying student needs
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student’s academic, language and social/emotional progress
  • Analyze student assessment data to inform instructional planning
  • Provide instruction remotely if necessary

Development and Collaboration:

  • Participate in regular feedback sessions from colleagues and school leaders to improve instructional practices
  • Participate and contribute to collaborative staff development sessions that drive school improvement and growth of school
  • Take on leadership roles to support the school mission as a founding team member of the school
  • Support the accreditation of the school by the French Ministry of Education 
  • Improve skill and knowledge base in current research and best practices in language immersion, second language acquisition, culturally responsive education, classroom technology use, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections

Required qualifications:

  • Native level fluency in French 
  • Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of language acquisition and language immersion
  • Successful classroom experience in an elementary setting
  • High degree of cultural competency 
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant technology
  • Ability to reflect on feedback and improve instructional practices
  • Embrace the presence of French language in the Francophone world
  • Deep knowledge of French curriculum to support the school in obtaining the certification from the French Ministry of Education
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness in solving problems, strong organizational and time management skills, and keen attention to detail, strong work ethic, and flexibility
  • Legally eligible for employment in the United States

Education, training and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree either in education or French required
  • Completion of a teacher preparation program and 3+ years successful teaching experience in a French language immersion setting preferred
  • Teaching certificate from The French Ministry of Education (or a Francophone Ministry of Education) or the American Council of Teaching Foreign languages preferred
  • Hold or be eligible for a Colorado Teaching Certificate
  • International Experience (travel abroad, etc…) highly  preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel
